Embark on a scenic hike through the beautiful Mackenzie King Estate, followed by a refreshing yoga and meditation session led by the renowned instructor, Ali.

Event Details:

Date & Time: The event will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Location: The adventure begins with a convenient pickup at City Hall (Laurier entrance) where our transportation will whisk you away to the trailhead.

Agenda:

  • 10:00 AM: Meet at City Hall for bus pickup

  • 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Guided hike at Mackenzie King Estate (Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes)

  • 12:00 PM - 12:45 PM: Gentle yoga and meditation session with Ali

Learn to Car Camp

Women of Colour Remake Wellness and Adventure Report have teamed up to bring you a morning discussing how you can try out camping for the first time and feel good about it!

We know that camping can be a ton of fun, but that if you've never done it before it can also be super intimidating.

So we've asked Outdoor Education teacher Jenny Kirton to host a conversation designed to help you feel comfortable with the idea of trying out camping, and answering all your questions.

Topics we'll cover:

-The different places you can find a campsite.

-What it feels like to camp at an Ontario Provincial Parks campsite. (Are there other people around? Bugs? Animals?!)

-What to pack so you will feel safe and comfortable.

-How to safely store food.

-How to safely cook food.

-How and where you can borrow camping gear for free in Ottawa.

-Whether camping is safe for kids (it is!).

Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

This conversation will be hosted inside at Patagonia in the Byward Market. Opened in December 2022, Patagonia Ottawa is a locally owned Patagonia Partner store. We take pride in representing Patagonia in our local market by working to bring the brand and the mission statement to life: we are in business to save our home planet. We work to diligently service our customers through engaged and authentic experience. We work to connect and support local nonprofits and community groups through our 1% for the Planet membership and through events and campaigns. We are owned and operated through business alongside Patagonia Halifax which opened in 2011.

Led by: Biatris Lasu, an experienced outdoor enthusiast and advocate for making outdoor activities accessible to BIPOC communities. Biatris brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for nature that inspires and empowers.

Gears Provided: We're thrilled to announce that all necessary gear for this snowshoe hike will be provided courtesy of the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library. This includes snowshoes, poles, and any additional required equipment. Our goal is to make this experience as accessible and enjoyable as possible, without the worry of gear.

About the Outdoor Project: This hike is an integral part of our Outdoor Project, aimed at making outdoor experiences more accessible and affordable for BIPOC folk. We believe in the healing power of nature and the importance of creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome to explore and connect with the outdoors.

How to Dress:

  • Warm Layers: Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin. Add an insulating layer, like fleece or wool, and top it off with a waterproof and windproof outer layer.

  • Protect Your Extremities: Wear a warm hat, gloves or mittens, and wool socks. Consider gaiters to keep snow out of your boots.

  • Footwear: Waterproof boots are essential for keeping your feet dry and warm. Your boots should have enough room to accommodate thick socks without restricting circulation.

What to Bring:

  • Water: Staying hydrated is key, even in cold weather. Bring a water bottle or hydration pack.

  • Snacks: Energy bars, nuts, or dried fruit are great for a quick energy boost.

  • Personal Items: Sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, and sunglasses to protect against the sun and glare from the snow.

WoCRW X Arc’teryx: BIPOC Indoor Climbing

Join us for an exciting and inclusive event designed specifically for BIPOC women interested in indoor rock climbing! In collaboration with Arc’teryx, we are thrilled to offer a unique opportunity for beginners to experience the thrill and excitement of climbing in a supportive and welcoming environment.

All participants will receive a free day pass to Altitude Gym and an Arc’teryx chalk bag to enhance their climbing experience. Shoes rental is included in the ticket price, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm and a desire to try something new!

An experienced instructor will provide a brief tutorial on the basics of climbing, including how to safely use equipment, proper technique, and some tips and tricks for beginners. Afterward, we will have plenty of time to play around and explore the gym at our own pace.

Intro to XC Skiing

Are you interested in trying out cross country skiing for the first time? Or are you a total beginner? If so, we invite you to join us for an exciting event!

We will be providing all the necessary gear and knowledge, so all you need to bring is your sense of adventure. The Kanata Nordic Ski Club will provide all XC ski gear. Please make sure to let us know your height, weight, and shoe size as soon as possible after registering, so we can ensure that we have the appropriate size available.

During the event, our instructor will show us how to put on our ski gear, get up from the ground if we've fallen, ski with and without poles, and even go up and down small hills (if we're feeling brave!). Afterward, we'll head off on the trail to practice what we’ve learned.

This is a kid-friendly event, so feel free to bring your children or the whole family. We'll close the event with refreshments and light snacks in the chalet.

Are you interested in increasing your strength, flexibility, and balance? Join us for an introduction to Pilates! No previous experience or knowledge of Pilates is required. All levels and fitness levels are welcome.

About Pilates

Pilates is a system of exercise and movement designed to increase strength, flexibility, and balance. It integrates breath and movement with proper body mechanics to increase awareness and engage all muscles of the body. Most exercises focus on the pelvis and trunk, utilizing both stability and mobility to train the body. Pilates can be practiced on a mat using your own body and sometimes small props, or on specialized Pilates Apparatus (the Pilates Reformer is the most common). Classes can occur in one-on-one or group settings. Pilates is for all bodies of all ages. The beauty of the method is that it can be modified to fit the needs and abilities of each individual who practices it.

Essential Oil: Wellness Routine Workshop

Join Women of Colour Remake Wellness and @sajewellness for a workshop on self-care routines. Spend the evening learning how to prioritize your self-care using the tools and knowledge of Saje Natural Wellness products with the help of their educator.

Saje Natural Wellness's educator will show you how to use essential oils for a self-care routine as you rotate through different workshop tables. Each workshop table will showcase items that could elevate each of your wellness routines.

We'll start the workshop at Saje Natural Wellness's Rideau Centre location. Here's what each of the four workshop tables will cover:

  • Workshop 1: Sleep routine. Learn how to use essential oils, rollers, diffuser blends, creams, and mists to support your sleeping routine.

  • Workshop 2: Movement and pain management. Focus on using mists, rollers, creams, and bath salts to manage pain and movement.

  • Workshop 3: Pocket pharmacies. Walk through the physical pocket pharmacy and the mindful pocket pharmacy and learn how Saje Natural Wellness team members integrate them into their everyday lives.

  • Workshop 4: Skin care. Answer open-ended questions to identify the product that's most supportive to your skin type. Four lines are available for: dry mature skin, sensitive/irritated skin, oily skin, and normal combination to balance the zone.

All participants will be given a Saje Natural Wellness Relax-O-Ring.
